What Is Numerology?
What Is Numerology?
The study of numbers and how they affect us.
Decoding The Patterns
Numerology is an ancient practice based on the idea that the entire universe is a system that mathematically breaks down into basic elements: Numbers. The practice reveals the inner nature and vibration of numbers, and how they correspond to your personal characteristics.
As a tool for self-awareness and clarity, numerology describes the cycles you will experience during the course of your life, offering guidance in the areas of career, romance and prosperity. By understanding your talents, life goals, and hidden characteristics, you can better harness these aspects to approach upcoming opportunities.
How Does Numerology Work?
Numerology uses your birth date and full birth name to reveal a unique portrait of your personality, as well as insight into potential opportunities and challenges you may face on your journey. The numbers in your birth date reflect influences related to the momentum, the direction of your Life's Path. The numbers derived from your birth name reflect WHO you are as you walk that path.
Master Numerologist Hans Decoz discusses the origins and applications of numerology.
A Language for Expanding Awareness
Numerology is a language that allows you to expand the horizon of your spiritual awareness. The practice is based on the notion that everything is connected and that everything exists in perfect synchronicity - a vision essential to metaphysical sciences.
A Tool for Introspection & Self Help
Numerology opens doors in your psyche that you may not be aware of. It’s a way to gain greater insight into your inner self, revealing aspects of your personality that’s fresh and inspiring. It provides a new vantage point to view yourself - one with greater distance and perspective than many self-help systems. Self-knowledge is the key to success and freedom. Having a deeper understanding of your strengths and weaknesses helps you move forward with clarity and authenticity.
The Personality of Numbers
Numbers can be seen as archetypes with each number embodying a distinct vibrational energy and inner nature. As you learn more about each number – there are 9 of them - you begin to see how they resonate with “who you are”. For example, a person with a 5 Personality will be quite different than someone with a 1 Personality. While you may not have thought of numbers as having personalities, as you get to know them, you’ll likely find you are drawn to some numbers over others. Pay attention to these preferences, this pull is guided by an intuitive attraction to the nature - or personality - of the number.
The History of Numerology
St. Augustine of Hippo (A.D. 354–430), wrote "Numbers are the Universal language offered by the deity to humans as confirmation of the truth." Similar to Pythagoras, he too believed that everything had numerical relationships and it was up to the mind to seek and investigate the secrets of these relationships.
The Greek philosopher Pythagoras is sited as creating the Pythagorean system sometime around 500 BC. It is remains the most popular method of analyzing personal numerology charts.
Appearing throughout history, numerology is prominent in Sir Thomas Browne's 1658 literary Discourse The Garden of Cyrus. Throughout its pages the author attempts to demonstrate that the number five and the related Quincunx pattern can be found throughout the arts, in design, and in nature – particularly botany.
In the early 1900s, Sara Dennis (L. Dow Balliett) and Juno Jordan (late 1800’s) were influential in creating the modern Pythagorean system we use today. Both women wrote books on the subject, furthering our understanding.
There are several different methods of numerology, including Chinese, Vedic, and Chaldean.
By exploring the patterns numerology uncovers, we find deeper truths about the world, human nature, and the hidden connections that shape our lives.
